Celebrating Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

"The Embrace"

On this Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr Day, we remember the incredible life and legacy of a remarkable civil rights leader who continues to inspire us all with his groundbreaking achievements! This year’s celebration is especially meaningful following the unveiling of an awe-inspiring 20 foot tall sculpture honoring both him and Coretta Scott King in Boston – depicting their tender embrace after he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964. Let us honor them by continuing to strive for progress towards justice throughout our country today.

Why We Celebrate

Today is Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day—a day to celebrate the life and legacy of one of the most influential civil rights leaders in American history. This year, it’s especially meaningful as we commemorate the unveiling of a new sculpture honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Coretta Scott King in Boston, Massachusetts. The sculpture, which stands 20 feet tall, depicts their embrace after Dr. King won a Nobel Peace Prize in 1964. This monumental moment in history marks a major milestone for our nation—a tangible celebration of Dr. King’s legacy and an acknowledgment that we are still working towards achieving his dream of true equality for all people living in the United States today. The new sculpture serves as an important reminder that we must continue striving towards making this dream a reality if we wish to honor the memory of this great leader who fought so hard for justice and freedom during some of our country’s darkest hours —and even during its brightest days too!

Dr. King’s message of nonviolence, equality and justice is still as relevant today as it was in the past. He fought for the rights of all people and his legacy continues to inspire many to work for a better, more just world.

On this day, we honor the memory of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and his contributions to the Civil Rights Movement. We take this opportunity to reflect on his message and his legacy, and to recommit ourselves to the ongoing work of creating a more just and equal society for all. It’s also a time for us to reflect on what we can do in our own lives to make a difference, be an ally, educate ourselves and take action to fight against racism and discrimination. Dr. King once said, “Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.” Let us all strive to be lights in the world and to spread love and understanding in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
